For Universities

The internal work students need before
they decide what to do.

Being In Between focuses on the deep identity work that most career services do not cover.

The Case for Coaching Students

Nearly two in five UK postgraduate students are uncertain about their future career direction.

Many students feel lost, stuck, or pressured by family to pursue a particular career path. Some are overwhelmed by their varied interests and unsure of how to decide. They crave time and guidance to reflect on their emergent identity and to intentionally craft a future career path.

This lack of clarity creates challenges for universities trying to assist with career placement. While traditional career counselling or mentoring can be effective for students with clear goals, coaching is better suited for self-reflection and exploration of identity. Unlike mentoring, there is very little advice or guidance; instead, coaching uses specific questioning techniques and thought-provoking prompts to help people find their own answers.

Coaching has been established as a transformational tool in the business sector for corporate executives and leaders. It is inaccessible to most students due to the cost. But coaching would be a valuable asset to them.

Through Being In Between's Career Coaching course, students accelerate their process of self-discovery (including identifying strengths, values, and passions), generate and evaluate career options, create a personal narrative, gain confidence in uncertainty, and determine a plan for after their graduation. Students leave with the tools and confidence to make more informed decisions about their next steps.

The Career Coaching course consists of highly interactive group sessions. Self-discovery exercises enable students to explore their thoughts and feelings in depth. The course is engaging, fun, and provocative.
